Believe it or not, every business deserves and needs great marketing to succeed nowadays, especially in 2019 where the online digital world has carved its way into becoming part of our daily lives to the point that social media is an intrinsic form of communication and engagement with our customers.

Now I know that as much as  you may want to market your business online and engage with your customers and social media followers in order to grow your business, sometimes you may not even know where to start with it all because there's so many aspects of digital marketing to consider which your business can use as a tool for  implementing growth strategies for your brand.

For instance, here are some of the most common digital marketing tools and strategies business use to reach their target audience online:

The point of creating a Google My Business profile is so that your business can be found in google search by those people that are looking for your products or services. This is actually a great way to make sure that you not only get noticed online, but also a way to rank on google search and be found by your prospective customers!
  1. First thing to do is to create a gmail account. If you already have one, great!
  2. then the following thing to do is search "Google My Business".
  3. In the top right hand corner, click sign in.
  4. Then sign into your gmail account
  5. Enter the name of your business and follow the rest of the prompts and you'll be set up in no time.


Remember that content marketing refers to using content assets like writing blog posts, eBooks, creating video, photographs, or infographics to build brand awareness and encourage  a sale from your prospective customers!

Now as soon as you've created your Google My Business profile, and Google has approved it,you will be prompted to create a post on your Google My Business Profile so as to create awareness for your business and brand. 

This is a great opportunity to start employing content marketing strategies like using a photo of your products or quick video to introduce your business to anyone that will find your business listing on Google search.

Assuming that you already have a website for your business, another way to employ content marketing strategies and improve your chances of  getting  noticed online is to write blog posts - which any marketing expert will confirm it's  one of the top inbound  marketing tactics  to  increase  your business' visibility on google search provided you employ  SEO strategically!

Now, just be aware that this method of promoting your business  online to get noticed will not work instantly. It's going to take time and it'll definitely need more effort and consistency on your part where you are creatively using SEO as part & parcel of your content marketing  to actually  see any results.

Create and choose  3 social media  profiles that you've  identified as key components to connecting  with your target clients and creating awareness  about  your  business. 

The reason  I say 3 social media channels instead of the main 6 social media channels (ie. Instagram,  Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, LinkedIn or Pinterest)  is because it'll make it easy for you to stay on top of things and create content for each platform easily rather than getting swamped by the task itself!

So how do you know or choose which social media platform to be active on?


Just identify where most of your key personas, (aka your target audience) exists and are active on that platform. 

For example, if your business' key personas are millenial women who are recently married and have young children, then Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook  would be your ideal 3 social media channels to become active on. But if your ideal clients are graduates that are looking for tips to getting their first professional job post college and help pay their  college fees then Instagram,  LinkedIn and Snapchat would be your 3 social Media platforms to leverage in order to increase your business' visibility with that key demographic that your business is aiming to reach via social.

So at this point, your homework is to assess who your key personas are and which of the 6 main social media platforms are they mostly active on. Then once you've done that, be active only on those social media platforms and employ content marketing strategies tailored towards attracting your target audience via social media.


This will work positively in your favour as Google likes to push business profiles up the rankings if the business has 1)  a Google My Business Profile; 2) Regularly creates and publishes content on their profiles be it blogs or photos, 3) has an average of 4 star rating reviews as this makes the business noteworthy and thus gets further up in the ranking.


The point of this article is  to help you realise that is it is definitely  possible to advertise and your business on google and on social media without paying for ads but like anything worth doing, it is going to be labour-intensive and will require consistency if you are  going to see any results.
So put all of these digital marketing strategies into place as part of your advertising strategies and be consistent with your content marketing by consistently updating your social media, posting on your Google My Business Profile, creating original and captivating content like videos & promotional photos of your products/services and not forgetting those google reviews!
