CAREER GUIDE: HOW TO CREATE A JOB HUNT PLAN IN 4 EASY STEPS

A new year is looming, which, for some, could imply new beginnings, and sometimes even a new career change!

Now, for those of you who want to ring-in the New Year with a bang by landing a new job in 2017, that could mean  you're currently on an incessant job hunt - which is great!

But I'm not sure if you realize it or not, being on a job hunt is a lot like making fish bait  - if you want to grab the fish, you first have to carry out a few preparations, mainly  hooking something of interest to the fish. And that same principle applies to job hunting -  you first need to put the bait out there if you want to get the job!

And here's what means:

STEP 1.

Spruce up your LinkedIn Profile and keep it well updated
Given how LinkedIn is the go to place for employers and recruiters alike, you may wanna spruce it up and keep it updated if you want to catch recruiters' attention.
That means, 1) updating your profile photo with a much recent photo of yourself, 2) Get a custom URL so as to make sure your name rises to top rank  when recruiters search for people in your industry. This is also a clever way to build your Online Personal Brand. 3) And most importantly, write a LinkedIn headline that's catchy but still captures what it is you do or are looking for, ie new employment opportunities!

STEP 2.
 Update your CV/Resume
Just like your LinkedIn profile, make sure you update your CV/Resume detailing the most up to date skills . Maybe you've recently learnt a new skill, or you've acquired a masters degree, or maybe you've taken up volunteering - put that on your CV/Resume to increase your chances of actually getting employed.

STEP 3.

Write a list of what you want from your ideal  job.
Writing a list of what you want is a great way to make sure that you stick to the plan. And besides, getting clear on what you want is a great way to highlight what's most important to you regarding your career.
Your list should include 1) what you want from the job, 2)what you want to gain or achieve, 3) what sort of company culture you want to be a part of, etc. This is a great way to make sure that you're not disappointed in any job you'll eventually land because you would have made sure to state exactly what it is you want.

STEP 4.

 Enhance your online presence
That could mean creating a professional website so as to enhance your Personal Brand, or it could even mean starting a blog that focuses on your industry in hopes of building a more robust portfolio of works or indeed increasing your professional experience. This is a great way to showcase your skills to their full extent, plus also  show recruiters that you 1) have initiative, and 2) you are way more experienced than your resume states.
