It's Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend!
I'm so HAPPY to have you here, because today I'm continuing with our  (Re)Brand Yourself Series, and  I'm gonna show you how you  can leverage your story for your own success, as I'm a firm believer that if it didn't kill you, then it only made you stronger - So embrace it!
So, on that note, here's the big question for you-
What have you been through so far that perhaps has lead you to where you are now in your life?
What has happened  with you, or didn't happen, that maybe lead to a few changes, if not disruptions in your plans?
What makes you who you are?
... Because that is your ticket to successfully (Re)Branding Yourself like a pro!

As I'm not sure if you realize this, but every single one of us has a story, and  it is what you do with that story that either sets you apart as a leader among your counterparts or as someone who just blends-in with the rest.

Now, you may be reading this and thinking: "I have a story, but it isn't that appealing? OR I'm ashamed of my story and I'd really rather not have anyone know my past" Or my life is boring, I haven't done much with my life that would warrant me talking about it!"
Well, you're not alone! As you may or may not know, my story is basically someone who had the audacious dream of being an Architectural Designer who would later progress to HELPING PEOPLE live sustainably by showing them how to use natural capital through DESIGN and WRITING.  Well, Long-Story-Short: THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!! Or rather, it hasn't happened yet (You see, I'm still  a little hopeful that maybe it will happen one day!) But between you and me, it hurts every time I have to say that out loud or even write about it here because it's just a reminder of what I didn't achieve. And for me, there's no worse feeling than feeling like I've let myself  down.
But the truth is, yes, even though I absolutely LOVED designing, it didn't really come easy to me as, perhaps, writing this post is.

So... I ask again:
What have you done in the past?
What was your worst moment? Most embarrassing moment? Moment you still cringe or cry or beckon the earth to open-up so it could swallow you whenever you think about that moment?
...because I bet you: that is the very thing that's gonna propel you from mediocre to greatness.

That moment that caused you to cry yourself to sleep, or caused you to hide away from everyone, or lead you to do 'stupid' things is exactly what you need to embrace  henceforth.  And here's why:

  • It's gonna give you a fresh perspective when doing whatever it is that you may be trying to achieve at the moment
  • it is going to set you apart from the rest as the one to watch out for.
  • It will either be your niche, or the thing that will lead you to your niche.
  • you will be thankful for that moment one day, because by then you'll realise that without it, you wouldn't have what you have now- A purpose;  a career; and a happy Life.

So how can you use your story?

  • Always be aware of it when doing something. draw from it as a source of inspiration.
  • In everything you do, mention your story whenever possible. That will do two things for you: 1) Highlight your ability to bounce-back from set-backs; and 2) it will make you easily identifiable simply because you have a unique background.

Embrace your story! Whatever that may be. It's part of your past, and it is what has been carefully moulding you all this time into the kinda person you need to be for the very venture that you may be working on right now, or are still dreaming about making into a reality.
Because here's the kicker: it is within that story that the magic awaits!
